Finally the day we have all been waiting for 9-8-2020!!! The girls very first day of first + second grade!! Like this just feels so bittersweet and my heart can’t handle the growing up!!!
I still remember my first day of 2nd grade with my new navy disney classic backpack, new supplies in my backpack and a NEW SCHOOL! I remember being so scared but excited to wear my uniform and navy sweater with my name and school emblem embroidered on it. Haha
I wanted to make it special for the girls, I wanted them to have those same memories! So of course new outfits, shoes, supplies in their new school totes (thanks Amanda!) and just a day of conversation and fun. I mean we homeschool so I didnt want to jump into all work no play!
I didn’t open curriculum, I didn’t have plans to teach and crack down. I wanted them to talk to me about what they wanted to learn, what did they expect to do, and what “goals” they had!
Jeff was home as it was his birthday so it was great to have him here and just see the girls excitement for another year of homeschooling, another year of magic!

back to school kit!
BACK TO SCHOOL KIT.
As homeschoolers my girls won’t experience for now the joy of getting that back to school list and rushing the aisles of target to pick the best box of crayons, the best pens and picking out a lunch bag etc. So I wanted to buy them some fun little things to go in these totes to celebrate the new year!
Found some new art supplies from brands we love, some learning things like an iPad and Bug cycle made of wood, a journal, planner, hair clips and new flask!
I love my art supplies but I wanted to get them something pretty with these Ooly opaque colors that just seemed perfect, something they didn’t have! Also got the watercolor crayons and a fun little pen with a star dangling off the top. More crayola crayons and markers because that just feels like a must for the first day of school!
I talked about the Amazon Journal in my story but for those that missed it I wanted something we can use each morning. Its a simple journal with a spot for them to draw and write a little paragraph or few lines. I’m not sure what exactly our focus of the journal but I think I’m overthinking it and will have them draw the day before, something in nature and read from the Sing of Songs book and have them draw their vision.
As for the iPad which is huge for me because I’m not so into technology for the girls. I want them to play outdoors and connect with nature. But I want them to learn to type, I mean it’s important. We use HWT for printing and I knew they had a typing app for kids K-5th so we went with Keyboarding Without Tears. I want them to be a little bit better at sending an email (eventually) or iMessage to family. We also are going to put more apps on the iPads for learning purposes but for now this will be the start!
Most important the girls needed a new flask. The last one they had was just old but they girls don’t like to part with things that have meaning so we told them they can take it on a hike, a day in nature etc but these new ones are a good way to welcome the new school year. They seemed to respond that well!
As for the wood toy! I wanted them to have something they are into and something they can use to read and learn more facts, open a book and relate to it, identify the insect or the cycle in which they appear so I found these great pieces from Mirus Toys. I have many of her pieces and you see them in our homeschool room. But I needed something small to fit so I went into my closet and was like what should I give them. I pulled out the Monarch Cycle and Bee Cycle to give them each! Be sure to check out Mirus Toys for amazing pieces for you kids!
