back to school books.

If you didn’t know this by now, I absolutely LOVE books. The idea of an adventure waiting within pages of a book is just so captivating to me. As a young child my parents always took us (4 brothers and I) to libraries. I loved sitting under the big faux tree in the children’s section to read books. I loved when my daddy read to me. I loved when my mommy read to me. As I got older I never outgrew books. I may have grown beyond the colorful pages and pictures, but my love for reading just grew stronger.

Till this day I spend my early mornings reading the newspaper, scrolling instagram, researching school supplies or just books for the girls to enjoy. I love when everyone in the house wakes up. I tell jeff all about the news and the girls about something new I read.

I told myself to always build a library for the girls but make sure it has meaning. So it’s no surprise that for back to school or any holiday really I have to dedicate the shelves for the theme.

This is Back To School, the most important shelf. The shelf that sets the tone for the year. I usually place new and old nature books or pull some living books from the shelf to rotate but this year I dedicated the B2S shelf to “school books”. I wanted books that welcomed the new school year books and that inspired learning. I found so many books and was like do I buy them all. I mean of course, but I had to only pick a few. So I picked some for the artwork, and others for the story line. I picked each of the girls a special book as they are going into First + Second.

I hope far into the future as my girls reflect back on these childhood memories they remember this little nook in the playroom I dedicated to books for each season. I hope they remember each book was selected with them in mind. I hope they remember how they got lost in stories and adventures like I did.

Buy or Borrow?
I get asked if I buy them or borrow from the library. I use to borrow but I found myself scattering to find all the books we needed to take back because of fees, COVID so the library was actually closed. Or filled with anxiety when the house was quiet hoping Kennedy didn’t decide to write her name in a book and color a picture of her family.
So I’ve been slowly but surely adding to our library section. I find IG sellers with sell preloved books for super cheap. Books that are older than me with years of adventure left. Or head to the library to grab some cheap books in the “shop”. I order from amazon, usborne, scholastic or barnes and noble. And for when the girls outgrow them I hand them off to my niece who is just shy of 2. She gets so excited to turn the page, to see a new picture and it takes me back to the days when my girls were little.

The best gift for any child, a book. A good book and a new bookmark!! Be sure to leave a comment with either your favorite or your kids! And I will select 10 of you to receive a free bookmark for your kids to read this school year!

* you can purchase any of the books posted from our amazon list.
