Lisa from BioBox Lab reached out to share her love for science with her curated boxes that aim to “bring the wonders and curiosities of biology to your front door.” She offered a Marine Madness box for my girls to try out for July. What a great opportunity as we approach “Shark Week” in July. So of course I said yes and rushed off to the site to look at everything!
At first glance the website is well put together with so much information jammed with Science! So many monthly subscriptions for your Science loving kids! I couldn’t wait to get the Marine Madness Box and for my girls to discover the beauty of the Aquatic Life. May + June we have frequent the Discovery Cube OC and visited the new Discovery Cube Sea Lab and Ocean Encounter which has a great coastal tidepool touch tank with sea stars and sharks, sting rays. Great way to tie in our Discovery Cube OC visits with an at home dissection kit!
When we opened the box the girls were so excited to see 2 sets of gloves and glasses to wear! The simple things with 2 girls they each get their own! They had so many questions and were in shock when they saw the HUGE SQUID! The sea star was the perfect size for them to both really look at and study. They liked this the most. The kit came with a diatom slide which thankfully we already had a microscope we got a few years ago on amazon. So they were both able to take turns looking at the slide and comparing each drawing to the slide. Even got to grow our own triops which omg what an experiment this is!
The girls had a lot of questions, some that I didn’t know so thank you google for allowing me to do an easy search to help answer questions. Another great thing is for Skye’s 5th grade Science Curriculum from Blossom+Root we start off with Oceanography so this was a great introduction for what is to come.
I don’t want to give too much away about the Science Box because surprises are a good thing! But I will say there are prompts in the book to follow and ask your kids when working together. I had the girls fill out their journal because we only had one book and I wanted them both to write the answers. We learned things together and all three of us agreed that we don’t like formaldehyde. We also did a search to explain the importance of this and how it benefits science.
I’m excited to share a few amazing things with you all. If you buy the subscription you will start with the Microscope Box (which includes your kids very own microscope) Or if you want want to start with the Marine box be sure to explain that in the notes. (That’s if you have your own microscope like us)
I do have a code to share with you all “ELDER10” which is active to August 15th. But the great news about this code that its valid for the duration of your subscription order not just your first box! So if you want to get a box be sure to order now and use the code! GET YOUR BIOBOX!!!!

xx,
rosemary
