It’s finally come to the end of summer. Summer 2023 was filled with so many memories and I’m thankful for this time with my family and friends.
Jeff said we should spend our last day of summer at our favorite place, the Garden! We went to check the foliage, walk the grounds and appreciate all the native plants that are still in bloom, gone dormant and those ready to bloom as the seasons shift. The girls were excited to bring their new “Stanley’s” and some toys to come and play. Of course they packed their new watercolor pan set, which I’m telling you brought them so much joy!
It was an absolute dream walking the grounds which were overcast and cool you can tell the season is ready to change. The garden was rather quiet, calm and faint sounds of wild life scurrying by. We noticed some trees were trimmed, plants were pruned and even a wedding was set up for this weekend.
The girls stopped by the monarch caterpillars to see their home was literally destroyed and wanted to bring them all home. Which we currently don’t have enough milkweed for. So Jeff and I called 14 Home Depot and Lowes to find what seems to be the most scarce plant on earth “Milkweed”. Its the end of the season but the monarchs had a late start so these caterpillars are the fighters and the ones we have to save. According to Skye “Daddy, only 1% make it we cant let them not make it!” This statement alone was enough to move the both of us. We did bring home ONE. I know not many but we told them we will still set out to find milkweed so we can help more.
We ended our day with the golden light and bidding farewell to the frogs. There are so many new frogs at the garden. The girls think they are the cutest. They didn’t draw them in their journals but they did jot down all about the caterpillars and painted one too!
As we bid summer farewell, it was a great day spending among the native plants and we welcome fall tomorrow in the Apple Orchards.
xx,
me
